Ensnared,
Her eyes, her voice.
In print, she is kept mine.
When I could not have her in life.
Taken.

Cinquain

This five-line form was invented by Adelaide Crapsey (1878-1914), a poet famous for appropriating models from translation of the classical poetry of Japan. The cinquain has a wavelike syllable count of two-four-six-eight-two.

This is an experimental form I wrote for my poetry class (it is not a writing poetry class, it is a reading poetry class, but she expects us to write also) - the cinquain. I am learning new forms and this was the first one I practiced with.

PLEASE give me your opinions on these new verse forms. I am not used to writing poems so short.

I like this. It's interesting how so few words has created an entire scenario in my head. I think you did very well with the cinquain form--I hope your professor feels the same way about it!:D

Ha ha, yeah. I hope so too. I wasn't sure would make much sense. The assignment was to write our own poem in a different style based on a poem we were currently reading. This is based on “Villanelle of His Lady’s Treasures” by Ernest Dowson. I'll write a Villanelle soon, too.
